At The New You Plan, your health and safety are our number one priorities. While our plan has helped thousands transform their lives, it is not suitable for everyone.
Before beginning a Very Low-Calorie Diet (VLCD), we strongly advise that you consult with your doctor or healthcare professional to ensure it is safe and appropriate for you.
✅ Before Starting the Plan: Follow Our Pre-Start Checklist
To safeguard your health, please ensure the following:
- Your BMI is over 25 (at least one stone overweight)
- You have no medical contraindications (see list below)
- You’ve had a check-up and received approval from your doctor
- You’ve had your blood pressure checked
- You commit to regular check-ups with your doctor (every 28 days is recommended)
🚫 You Are Not Suitable for The New You Plan If You Have or Are:
Medical Conditions or Medication Use
- An eating disorder or are taking anti-obesity medication
- Diagnosed with Arrhythmia, Bradycardia, or Tachycardia, or are on medication for heart rate irregularities
- Experience epileptic seizures or convulsions, or take anti-convulsant drugs
- A serious heart condition, heart disease, or have suffered a heart attack
- Diagnosed with severe psychiatric disorders, including:
- Bipolar disorder
- Psychosis or schizophrenia
- Taking MAOI or Lithium drugs
- Recently had a stroke, or take:
- Anti-coagulants
- Antithrombotics
- Fibrolytics
- Total lactose intolerance
- Type 1 diabetes or taking insulin
- Severe liver or kidney disease
- High blood pressure (only suitable on 1200kcal+ plan with doctor's approval and monitoring)
- Diabetes with medication (doctor approval required)
- Gout (only suitable on 1200kcal+ plan with doctor's approval)
- Taking any prescribed medications (doctor’s approval and monitoring required)
Recent Illness, Injury, or Surgery
- Suffered serious illness, trauma, surgery, or injury within the last 3 months
- Had preventative thrombosis medication within the last 6 months
- Had an angina attack in the last 12 months
- Are about to undergo surgery
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
- Pregnant
- Given birth within the last 3 months
- Had a miscarriage at 20+ weeks gestation
- Breastfeeding (if baby’s sole source of nutrition)
Age Restrictions
- Under 16 years of age
- Over 75 years of age
Other Conditions
- BMI under 25
- Diagnosed with heart, kidney, or liver disease
- Diagnosed with Porphyria (a rare genetic disorder)
- Severe depression
- Anorexia or bulimia nervosa
- Diagnosed with or treated for thrombosis within the last 6 months
- Experienced heart attack, stroke, serious accident, or major surgery in the last 3 months
- Hypertension (only suitable under doctor’s supervision)
- Have Type 2 diabetes (can follow the plan under direct guidance and monitoring of a GP)
